Reserve Your Uffizi Gallery Time Slot

The Uffizi's own ticket window regularly backs up for over an hour, especially between April and October. Booking a timed-entry ticket online gets you a fixed arrival window and a much shorter security line β€” the galleries themselves are worth every extra minute you save.

Uffizi Gallery Ticket Types

Standard Entry Ticket

Covers full access to the permanent collection across the gallery's top two floors. This is the ticket most first-time visitors choose, and it's valid for a single same-day entry within your assigned window.

Priority Timed-Entry Ticket

Adds a guaranteed arrival slot on top of standard admission, so you're not left guessing how long the queue will be that morning. Particularly worth it during the April–October high season, when walk-up waits regularly stretch past an hour.

Reduced-Rate Entry for EU Visitors Aged 18–25

Citizens of European Union member states between 18 and 25 years old qualify for a heavily discounted rate β€” bring a passport or national ID that confirms both your age and nationality at the entrance.

Free & Discounted Admission

Visitors under 18, regardless of nationality, enter at no charge with proof of age. The museum also opens its doors for free general admission on the first Sunday of every month, though capacity on those days is limited and lines form early.

Tips Before You Book

Benefits of Booking Ahead

Not to Miss Inside the Galleries

About the Uffizi Gallery

The Uffizi wasn't built to be a museum at all. Cosimo I de' Medici commissioned it in 1560 as offices ("uffizi") for Florence's magistrates and administrators, and architect Giorgio Vasari spent two decades turning the U-shaped building into reality. Only after Cosimo's death in 1574 did the Medici begin filling its upper floor with the family's private art collection.

A Medici Legacy

In 1743, Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, the last of her line, signed the Family Pact β€” a legal agreement ensuring the Medici art collection would remain in Florence forever rather than being scattered by future rulers.

One of the First Public Museums

The Uffizi opened its doors to the public in 1765, making it one of the earliest museums anywhere in the world, decades before the concept became common across Europe.

The Vasari Corridor

A private elevated passageway, also designed by Vasari, once let the Medici family walk unseen from the Uffizi across the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace β€” safely above the city's crowds and rivals.

Rebuilt After Tragedy

A 1993 car-bomb attack heavily damaged part of the gallery and destroyed several artworks. The Uffizi was carefully restored and reopened, with ongoing renovation work continuing to expand its exhibition space.

Good to Know Before You Go

Uffizi Gallery Tickets FAQs

Do I really need to book an Uffizi ticket in advance?

You can buy one at the ticket office on arrival, but same-day queues frequently run past an hour in high season. Booking ahead locks in an entry window and cuts that wait dramatically.

Is there ever a day when entry is free?

Yes β€” the first Sunday of every month offers free general admission. Space is limited, so arrive early if you're planning around it.

How much time should I set aside for a visit?

Most visitors spend two to three hours moving through the main collection. Art enthusiasts wanting to linger over the Botticelli and da Vinci rooms often plan closer to half a day.

I'm an EU citizen under 25 β€” do I qualify for a discount?

Yes, EU nationals aged 18 to 25 pay a reduced rate. Bring a passport or national ID card that proves both your age and citizenship at the entrance.

Does a timed ticket mean I walk straight in, no waiting at all?

It removes the ticket-purchase line, but everyone β€” pre-booked or not β€” passes through a security screening that typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

What happens if I arrive after my time slot?

There's usually a short grace period, but arriving significantly late can mean being asked to join the standby line instead. It's safest to arrive a few minutes early.

Can I photograph the paintings?

Yes, photography without flash is permitted throughout most of the galleries. Tripods and flash photography are not allowed.

Is the Uffizi easy to combine with other Florence sights in one day?

Very easily β€” the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, and Ponte Vecchio are all within a short walk, making it simple to pair a Uffizi visit with the rest of the historic centre.

Is the museum accessible for visitors with mobility needs?

Yes, elevators serve the upper floors where the collection is displayed, and staff can direct visitors to the accessible entrance.

When's the quietest time to visit?

Late afternoon on weekdays tends to be calmer than mid-morning, and visiting outside the April–October peak season generally means shorter lines even without a timed ticket.
